Indigenous peoples have many Nation—specific understandings, traditions and needs that mainstream harm reduction services often ignore or interrupt. This workshop will offer a critical analysis of what reducing the harm of colonialism can look like. Native Youth Sexual Health Network’s Indigenizing Harm Reduction Model will be shared and discussed. Participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to engage in critical dialogue about what ‘harm reduction’ is, where the practice comes from and what it really means to support people, particularly youth, where they are at. Harm is this instance refers to the many types of harm that young people experience in their lives from many sources including but not limited to substance use.
