This workshop continues the legacy of radical Arab women's activism and draws on a conversation that started in 2002, at Color of Violence 2 in Chicago when Arab and Arab American women activists caucused, discussing the many forms of violence they encounter and their strategies for resistance. Participants agreed on the need for a larger gathering where radical Arab women could work towards a collective movement focused on dismantling Zionism, imperialism, racism, homophobia, sexism, and classism; delving deeper within themselves; confronting violence in communities; building and sharing strategies and skills; and working within the broader women of color movement. This conversation led to the AMWAJ gathering in the summer of 2006 in Chicago where nearly 100 Arab women primarily from the U.S. created a space for collective struggle and celebrating our collective power. This breakout room revives and updates this conversation, brings together different generations of activists, and opens up new possibilities for justice and liberation within and beyond our communities.
