A growing dynamic among many in the LGBT equality movement and many in the Reproductive Justice movement argue that these two movements should be understood as entirely distinct from each other. This has likewise led to a perception that LGBT equality has experienced victories at the expense of the Reproductive Justice movement. This dynamic is ultimately harming the most marginalized people in both of these communities - those whose identities lie at the intersections - and therefore, whose liberation is tied to an integrated approach to both Reproductive Justice and LGBT equality. The goal of this workshop is to provide an intersectional framework to approach the issues relevant to these movements, and moreover, how the mainstream organizations in these movements can adopt and apply this approach. We will also consider the ways that we, as a community, can productively encourage them to do so and hold them accountable when they do not.
