Reshaping Realities: An Arts & Organizing Workshop

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

A dynamic exists within left, human rights, non-profits and NGO circles where the tragic story is extracted and performed to illicit empathy and investment from an often more privileged audience. The difficulty with this dynamic is it creates investment in a community's suffering and neglects investment in healing, empowerment, and joy. How can we be mindful of storytelling that moves beyond the damaged narrative while remaining accountable to histories of violence? How can we be mindful of storytelling that is not re-traumatizing? We hope that participants will experience and learn artistic tools that can be integrated into organizing and that centers healing, affirms choice, and cultivates joy.

Join this interactive workshop, as the presenters demonstrates different artistic methods and tools they have used in their artistic practices for empowerment, healing, and organizing with communities recovering from trauma. Participants will have the opportunity to examine injustice while dreaming different realities. Come ready to write, move, reflect, work together, and share.
